PROGRAMS
Since 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has led with purpose—committed to public service and empowering communities. The Madison Alumnae Chapter has proudly continued this legacy since 1977. Founded by 23 visionary women, our chapter has spent over four decades serving the Madison community through programs that educate, uplift, and inspire—staying true to our core values of sisterhood, scholarship, and service.

Economic Development
Empowering Communities Through Financial Fortitude
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. promotes economic empowerment through financial education, money management, investment strategies, and employment resources. In response to ongoing economic challenges, the Sorority’s national Financial Fortitude program provides practical strategies to help individuals and communities achieve long-term financial stability and growth.

We partner with community organizations to deliver workshops, lectures, and resources that support financial well-being and economic advancement.
Locally, the Madison Alumnae Chapter furthers this mission by offering programs on generational wealth, homeownership, and estate planning—including trusts and powers of attorney—as well as a variety of financial education initiatives. These efforts are designed to equip individuals and families throughout Dane County with the knowledge and tools to build and protect their financial futures.
Educational Development
Fostering Confidence and Excellence in Our Future Leaders
The Madison Alumnae Chapter’s Educational Development Committee is dedicated to supporting the academic success and personal growth of youth in Dane County. Our work focuses on mentorship, scholarship, and empowering the next generation of leaders.
Currently, we mentor young women at La Follette High School through our nationally supported program, Delta GEMS (Growing & Empowering Myself Successfully). Designed for African American girls ages 14–18, Delta GEMS was created to "catch the dreams" of at-risk adolescents and provide the structure to turn those dreams into reality.

Program Goals of Delta GEMS:

-
Instill the importance of academic excellence
-
Provide tools to sharpen and enhance academic and life skills
-
Guide students in setting goals and planning for life after high school
-
Foster compassion, leadership, and a commitment to community service

Delta GEMS offers a comprehensive roadmap for college and career planning, as well as activities that encourage self-reflection and personal development.

In addition to mentorship, the Madison Alumnae Chapter promotes a college-going culture by awarding annual scholarships to deserving students across Dane County. To date, we have awarded over $320,000 in scholarships, helping local youth pursue higher education and achieve their academic goals.

International Awareness & Involvement
Promoting Global Understanding and Impact
The Madison Alumnae Chapter's programs under International Awareness & Involvement are designed to broaden knowledge of global issues, foster cultural appreciation, and strengthen our connection to communities across the African Diaspora.
We support initiatives that promote understanding, compassion, and meaningful action on an international scale. Our efforts include participation in World AIDS Day, raising awareness and promoting global health advocacy.

Signature Programs Include:

-
"$22 for Our 22" – This initiative supported the Cynthia Butler-McIntyre Elementary School in Cherette, Haiti, with donations going toward meals, school supplies, and essential operational expenses
-
B.A.S.I.C.S. School Supplies & Toiletry Drive – A collection campaign that provides essential items to students in Accra, Ghana, helping to meet basic educational and hygiene needs.
Through these programs, we aim to inspire global citizenship and make a positive impact beyond our local borders.
Physical & Mental Health
Building Strong Bodies and Resilient Minds
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to raising awareness of health-related issues and encouraging preventive care and early detection. By providing the right tools, education, and resources, we empower individuals to take control of their health, manage minor illnesses, and know when to seek professional care.

The Madison Alumnae Chapter’s Physical & Mental Health initiatives focus on promoting behavioral lifestyle changes to support the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of African Americans in our surrounding community. We recognize that achieving and maintaining good health is essential to overall well-being and long-term success.

Locally, we partner with community organizations to offer health-focused programs and services that promote wellness and mental health awareness. Through workshops, events, and outreach efforts, we strive to improve the quality of life and resilience of our community.
